Professor Cham Tao Soon Honoured At The Land Transport Excellence Awards 2012

On 3 April 2012, Professor Cham Tao Soon, Chancellor and Chairman of SIM University, was presented with the Transport Thought Leader Award at the Land Transport Excellence Awards 2012 organised by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). This award honours Prof Cham for his many impactful and far-reaching contributions to Singapore’s land transport initiatives over the years.

Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, was guest of honour at this prestigious ceremony held at Swissotel The Stamford.

Inaugurated in 2008, the biennial Land Transport Excellence Awards celebrates outstanding individuals and industry partners who have played pivotal roles in developing an efficient, sustainable and people-centred land transport system in Singapore. The Transport Thought Leader Award, introduced this year, was conferred on Prof Cham for his demonstrated leadership in enhancing land transport knowledge.

Prof Cham's wealth of experience in land transport development and management spans over two decades given his close association with the industry since 1985. He was Chairman of Singapore Automotive Engineering Pte Ltd, Director of WBL Corporation Limited, founding director of SMRT Corporation Ltd and a member of the LTA Board. Since 2008, Prof Cham has been Chairman of the LTA Academy Advisory Board, which advises the academy on the strategic direction for its future growth. The academy, which serves as a one-stop focal point for governments, organisations and professionals around the world to tap Singapore’s know-how and exchange best practices in land transport management and development, has grown from strength to strength under his guidance.

Prof Cham is also the mastermind behind SIM University's Master of Science in Urban Transport Management programme, which is jointly developed by the University and the LTA Academy. The first of its kind in the region, this graduate programme is a practice-oriented and academically rigorous programme, which focuses on the policy and management aspects of urban transport, with an emphasis on sustainable development.
