    Admission Criteria

    At SIM University, we understand that each individual is unique.  In line with this belief, we practise flexibility in our admissions so as to cater to your distinctive needs and bring out your full potential. Students may enrol in individual courses or full graduate diploma or degree programmes. Our programmes are deliberately structured to ensure you can find an entry level matching your qualifications and work experience.


    Are you ready for us? You need to be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore.  In addition, you will need to meet these minimum requirements:

     Undergraduate programmes

    • GCE ‘A’ level with two passes (prior to 2006) or two H2 passes (from 2006), or local polytechnic diploma
    • Two years of work experience or is currently employed on a full-time basis
    • 21 years old and above

    Master’s Programmes

    • An undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution1
    • At least two years of work experience
    • 21 years old and above
    • A high level of motivation
    • Good communication skills (written and spoken)

    1Applicants applying for MA Chinese Language and Literature should preferably have an undergraduate degree in Chinese Language and Literature. Additionally, applicants must submit two copies of recommendation letters from either their employers or faculty members from the university that they had graduated.

    PhD Chinese Language and Literature Programme

    • A Master's Degree in Chinese Language and Literature or relevant fields such as Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy, or its equivalent1
    • Two years of work experience or is currently employed on a full-time basis
    • 21 years old and above
    • Pass a written admission test (except for Beijing Normal University or Nanjing University award winners and winners of outstanding dissertations) 
    • Not possess a passport issued by the People's Republic of China.

     1Additionally, applicants must submit two copies of recommendation letters from either their employers or faculty members from the university that they had graduated.


    For admissions to undergraduate programme, candidates with an acceptable SAT score may be considered for admissions on a case-by-case basis. Short-listed candidates may be required to undergo one or more interview(s) and/or take such written admission or other evaluation tests as may be prescribed by SIM University at its discretion from time to time.

    The offer of admission depends on the number of places available in individual programmes.  The decision of the Admissions Committee of SIM University is final and binding and no reasons will be given for the non-admission of unsuccessful candidates.

    Internet Access Requirement

    Students of SIM University must have access to a computer or laptop and the internet in order to use the electronic and website facilities, which allow access to course/academic and administrative information.
