1. What is UniSIM Mobile?
UniSIM Mobile is an official mobile application developed by UniSIM to allow potential students, current students, staff and the public to access essential information such as news and events, floorplans, courses, even directory and library services, all on the go directly from their mobile devices.
2. Why can't I access my course timetable, course materials, course lectures etc. in UniSIM Mobile?
UniSIM Mobile is launched as the first stage of UniSIM overall mobile strategy plan, with the aim to provide essential information about UniSIM to the public and UniSIM community. It is in our plan to roll out a series of secured-access Student App which include other useful features that are relevant to our current students. We will notify the students when the Student App is available.
3. Do I need to pay to download UniSIM Mobile?
UniSIM Mobile is made available at no cost to the users. The app can be downloaded from App Store and Google Play
4. What is the operating system used for UniSIM Mobile?
UniSIM Mobile works on iOS version 5.1 and above, and Android version 2.2 and above.
5. Are there differences between the iOS and the Android versions?
Besides some minor user interface differences, they have essentially the same key features. In the current Android version, 360 view is not available yet as we are working on a better user experience.
6. I can't seem to find a programme or a course on this app even though I know it can be found on the website.
We aim to offer up-to-date information on courses and programmes. However, please refer to the website for full details on the programmes and courses offered at UniSIM.
7. Can I use the Library One Search function outside of UniSIM campus?
We are currently working on the authentication protocols to allow UniSIM students to access the library module off campus. We will be posting updates when they are available.
8. Is UniSIM Mobile optimised for tablets?
It is an universal application for iOS. iPad and iPhone are having a different design but same content. Android app has the same interface across both phone and tablet devices.
9. Will there be a UniSIM mobile version for Blackberry or Windows 8?
For the moment we are focusing on iOS and Android devices. It is not in our immediate plans to support other devices.
10. How can I make feature requests or report a bug?
There is a feedback form on the UniSIM application itself. Look for it under "info". Also, you can follow us on twitter under #unisim_mobile

1. What is Blackboard Mobile Learn?

UniSIM adopts Blackboard as our learning management system. Blackboard Mobile Learn is an extension that allows users to access MyUniSIM (Blackboard) via mobile devices. Blackboard Mobile Learn allows easy access to Blackboard via an application installed in your mobile devices anywhere, anytime. Blackboard Mobile Learn is available for iOS devices (iPad, iPod and iPhone) as well as Android devices.

4. Can I submit my quizzes and assignments through Blackboard Mobile Learn?

You are not able to perform submission of quizzes and assignments through Blackboard Mobile Learn. Please submit using a Windows or Macintosh.

5. Can I access Blackboard from mobile browser instead of Blackboard Mobile Learn app?

You can access Blackboard from a mobile browser. But it is not stable. You might encounter error. It is recommended to use Blackboard Mobile Learn which is designed for access to Blackboard via mobile devices.

6. What are the features in Blackboard Mobile Learn app that is not available in Blackboard?
Blackboard Mobile Learn has unique features such as notifications, dashboard and Dropbox. You can receive notifications for new announcement, content and assignment reminders. Dashboard allows for a summary of updates to courses and Dropbox allows you to upload or download files on the move. These features are not available through Blackboard.
7. Where can I download Blackboard Mobile Learn?

Blackboard Mobile Learn is available for download via Android and The App Store.

Operating system (OS) of your mobile device must be version 2.3.0 or above

  1. Go to Google Play, search for "Blackboard Mobile Learn"
  2. Install Blackboard Mobile Learn
  3. Launch the app
  4. Search for "SIM University"
  5. Proceed with purchase of the app
  6. Log onto Blackboard using your assigned username and password.
iOS

Operating System (OS) of your mobile device must be version 5 or above

  1. Go to App Store, search for "Blackboard Mobile Learn"
  2. Install Blackboard Mobile Learn
  3. Launch the app
  4. Search for "SIM University"
  5. Proceed with purchase of the app
  6. Log on to Blackboard username and password.
8. What is the license cost of Blackboard Mobile Learn?

There are two pricing models:

  • Yearly Renewal: USD $1.99
  • Lifetime: USD $5.99
9. Can I use an existing license on another mobile device?

You can use an existing license on another mobile device provided that the operating system is similar.

On Android devices: Your license will be automatically synced to all your Android devices.

On iOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch): From Blackboard Mobile Learn, simply press the "Restore Purchase" text, enter your Apple ID, and you can use your license on the new mobile device.

1. What is eTextbook?
eTextbooks are electronic versions of the textbooks for students and instructors. As a downloadable resource, it enables students to learn anytime, anywhere even when there is no network connectivity. It allows access from multiple devices (i.e. desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone) and across various operating systems (i.e. iOS, Android, Windows & Mac).
2. How can I retrieve my eTextbook?
You can access to your eTextbook via the L group of your course. On the left menu, tap on "Learning Resources"-> "eTextbook".
3. Why do I need to register for a VitalSource account?
You will need a VitalSource account if you want to access your eTextbook across multiple platforms. VitalSource account allows for synchronisation of your text highlights and notes taking across Windows, Macintosh, iOS and Android.

1. What is iStudyGuide?
The iStudyGuide is essentially an electronic publication (.epub), with multimedia features and links to additional resources that enhance student learning. It aggregates all learning materials associated with the course – e.g., chunked lesson recordings, formative assessments, lecture slides – in one place.
2. Where do I retrieve my iStudyGuide?
You can access to your iStudyGuide via the L group of your course. On the left menu, tap on "Learning Resources"-> "iStudyGuide".
3. Where can I download iStudyGuide readers?

iStudyGuide can be viewed on desktops and mobile devices with screen size of 5" or more.

Please ensure that you have the selected reader for the device(s) you are using.

1. What is UniSIM Backpack?
UniSIM Backpack is an official mobile application developed by UniSIM to allow current students, associates and staff to access essential information such as system status, iStudyGuide, classroom lesson recordings on-the-go directly from their mobile devices.
2. Do I need to pay to download UniSIM Backpack?
UniSIM Backpack is made available at no cost to the users. The app can be downloaded from App Store and Google Play.
3. What is the operating system used for UniSIM Backpack?
UniSIM Backpack works on iOS version 6.1 and above, and Android version 4.0 and above.
4. Why I am not able to login to the app.
You are required to login using your UniSIM ID and password. UniSIM Backpack requires push notification service to be activated. iOS users can go to Settings -> Notification Center -> Backpack to turn on the service. Please contact mLearning@unisim.edu.sg if you are not able to login after turning on the notification service. Please note that UniSIM College Students will only be able to login after 4 August 2014, once Term 1, Semester 1 starts.
5. Can I turn off the push notification (PN) if I do not want to receive any message from this app?
User have to turn on PN service in order to login to the app. After successful login, user can turn the PN service off. However, student are strongly encouraged to leave the notification activated to receive important announcement or message broadcast from UniSIM.
6. I can't seem to find my courses on this app even though they can be found in Blackboard.
Access to My Courses will be available 1 week before the start of every semester.User need to logout and login again to see the new changes. Please contact mLearning@unisim.edu.sg with your email, login ID and missing courses if you are not able to access your courses after the stipulated timeline.
